Checked October 27, 2026 against Joi's Terms & Conditions (updated June 4, 2026), its Refund and Cancellation Policy and its help center. Joi doesn't publish a pricing page; plan prices below are as reported from US checkout and are marked.
Verdict: Joi AI is an adults-only AI girlfriend app with a big library of ready-made and community characters, plus image and video generation. The catch is its two-layer pricing: Premium unlocks the service, but Joi's terms say romantic, erotic or explicit messages, photos and videos are paid in Neurons, a separate credit. Light chatters can do fine on a yearly plan; heavy media users will keep topping up. If you mostly want to chat, Candy AI ($47.88 a year, unlimited chat) is simpler.

How Neurons Work
Joi's terms list the costs it publishes itself:
- Romantic message: 4 Neurons to read one.
- Photo view: up to 120 Neurons, depending on the theme.
- Video view: up to 1,900 Neurons, depending on the theme.
- Gifts to your companion are also priced in Neurons.
Some characters also sell their own Bot Subscription, which needs an active Premium plan and is suspended if Premium lapses. The help center says monthly benefits reset on the same day each month on every plan, including yearly, and unused benefits roll over.
Free Neurons and Promo Codes
- Free Neurons: the help center points to giveaways, events and challenges in Joi's Discord.
- Promo codes: Joi's help center confirms promo codes exist, are single-use per account, case-sensitive, expire, and must be entered at checkout before you pay. We didn't find a public code on Joi's own pages to share.
Refunds and Cancelling
- Cancel: Settings, then My Subscriptions, then choose the subscription. Cancellation applies from the next billing month.
- Refunds: the refund policy allows requests within 14 days in set cases: card fraud, a one-time purchase made by mistake (full refund if the Neurons are unused, partial if partly used), or if Joi terminated your subscription. Fees already charged and Neurons in the current month aren't refunded otherwise.
- Chargebacks: the policy says Joi may disclose your chats to the card company to prove a charge. Ask support first.
