SpicyChat Review: Free Chat, Pricier Upgrades
Checked October 27, 2026 against SpicyChat's September 2026 pricing update FAQ, its plan comparison page, its help center (plans, refunds, cancelling and queue articles) and its community guidelines.
Verdict: SpicyChat is a free-first character roleplay site with a huge community library and paid tiers that mostly buy memory, longer replies and images. Its free tier is generous for text, but replies are short and memory is small. Prices went up on September 8, 2026, so the cheapest tier that includes images is now $19.95 a month. If you want one companion with images included for less per year, Candy AI ($47.88 a year) is the cheaper paid option. SpicyChat has no affiliate deal with us; Candy AI and ourdream.ai do. The September 2026 Price Rise
SpicyChat raised every tier on September 8, 2026. Get A Taste went from $5.00 to $5.95 a month, True Supporter from $14.95 to $19.95, and I'm All In from $24.95 to $29.95. Yearly plans rose to $60.00, $199.95 and $299.95.
If you subscribed before that date, SpicyChat says you keep your old price as long as the subscription stays active and you don't change plans. Upgrading, downgrading or switching between monthly and yearly moves you to the new price, and so does letting the plan lapse.
What the Free Tier Gets You
SpicyChat lets you chat for free, and that's its biggest draw. The limits are on quality rather than access:
- Memory: 4,096 tokens of context. SpicyChat's own example estimates that's roughly the last 20 messages once a character's definition is loaded.
- Reply length: up to 180 tokens, which keeps replies to a few short paragraphs.
- Ads and queues: free accounts see ads and can be placed in a queue when traffic is heavy. SpicyChat says most of the time there's no queue.
- No free trial of the paid tiers. SpicyChat points free users to the avatar generator if they want to see its image quality.
SpicyChat doesn't publish a message cap for free accounts. Users report a sign-in prompt for guests after roughly 80 to 100 messages and an in-app daily limit for signed-in free accounts; we couldn't confirm either figure on SpicyChat's own pages, so treat them as reports.
Free vs Paid: What You Actually Pay For
All three paid tiers include unlimited messages, so you're paying for how well characters remember and how much they write:
- Get A Taste ($5.95) removes ads and queues and adds the Memory Manager, where you pin facts you want a character to keep. It doesn't raise memory or reply length.
- True Supporter ($19.95) is the real upgrade: double the memory, longer replies, automatic Semantic Memory, better models and conversation images.
- I'm All In ($29.95) adds the largest memory, every model, voice (text-to-speech) and priority generation.
One inconsistency to know about: SpicyChat's help center lists I'm All In memory as 16,384 tokens, while its documentation and plan comparison say up to 32K depending on the model. SpicyChat's docs explain that each model has its own limit and your chat uses whichever is lower, so expect the higher figure only on models that support it.
Content Rules
SpicyChat requires users to be 18 or older, and every character must be an adult and read as one. Its community guidelines and terms ban any content involving under-18s and non-consensual scenarios, along with deepfakes or realistic images of real people. Bots with explicit content must be marked NSFW. Depending on your region you may be asked to verify your age; SpicyChat says a recent credit card purchase can verify you automatically.
Refunds and Cancelling
- Refunds: for direct card payments, SpicyChat says it will refund if you ask within 24 hours, with minimal use, and aren't satisfied. Crypto and other one-time payments are non-refundable; app-store and other third-party purchases follow that platform's rules.
- Cancelling on the website: sign in, open your profile, choose Manage Subscription, then cancel. You keep access to the end of the paid period, then drop to free; nothing is deleted.
- No cancel button? That usually means you paid once (bank, crypto) and the plan won't renew anyway.
- Bought elsewhere: cancel through Google Play (the Android app is listed as PixelChat) or SubscribeStar. Deleting your SpicyChat account does not cancel those.
